The University of Kansas School of Business has chosen one of its longtime faculty members to serve as its next dean.
Jide Wintoki, a professor of finance and an associate dean in charge of graduate programs in the business school, will be the business school’s next dean, KU officials announced on Monday.
“As a longtime member of the KU community, Jide has a deep understanding of the School of Business and its faculty, staff and students, and how they can reach new heights in the years to come,” KU Provost Barbara A. Bichelmeyer said in a press release. “He has been dedicated to teaching, learning and discovery throughout his career, and I’m certain he will continue to be a strong advocate for and facilitator of Jayhawks’ excellence in scholarship and service.”
Wintoki, who first joined KU’s business school in 2008, has overseen all business doctoral and master’s programs since 2020 as the school’s associate dean of graduate programs. Winotki also serves as the school’s Capitol Federal Professor of Finance, and has research expertise in the areas of corporate finance, international finance and corporate governance.
“It is a true and singular honor to be chosen to serve as dean of the KU School of Business at this pivotal moment in its history,” Wintoki said in a release. “As we celebrate the school’s first century, I look forward to collaborating with our staff, faculty, alumni, partners across the university and well-wishers to continue to provide students with a transformative educational experience that leads to meaningful success and fulfillment. Working together, we will strengthen the foundation for the school’s next hundred years and ensure that all who invest in our mission see the lasting impact of their support.”
Wintoki has his doctorate degree in finance from the University of Georgia, and has an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
As dean, Wintoki will oversee all aspects of the school, including its research programs. Since 2023, Wintoki has been on the leadership team of one of KU’s fastest growing research projects, the National Science Foundation-funded Environmentally Applied Refrigerant Technology Hub Engineering Research Center.
Wintoki will begin serving as dean on July 1. Business school faculty member Susan Scholz has been serving as interim dean. She will return to her position as the school’s executive associate dean once Wintoki begins his new duties.
The dean position became open after former dean L. Paige Fields resigned the position last year as she returned to teaching and research duties on the KU business school faculty.
