Dania Wahwasuck, a 2023 KU grad and member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi, is Miss Indian World of 2025.

A University of Kansas graduate was named Miss Indian World last week at the Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dania Wahwasuck, a 2023 KU grad and member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi, took the title at the Gathering, which is the largest Native American powwow. Native American women ages 18 to 25 come from all over the continent to represent their tribes and compete for the coveted title. The contest’s purpose is to give the women an opportunity to showcase their tribes and cultures “while serving as a cultural Ambassador of Native Americans by demonstrating the pride and continuance of the diverse cultures of Native people,” according to the Gathering’s website.

Contestants accumulate points based on the areas of public speaking, traditional talent, interview, essay and dance.

Wahwasuck, of Mayetta, claimed the Best Dancer and Best Essay awards.
