A faculty member and administrator who oversees large parts of the operations at Purdue’s business school has been named as a finalist to become the next dean of the University of Kansas’ School of Business.

Lin Nan, a professor and senior associate dean at Purdue’s Mitch Daniels School of Business, will give a public presentation about her vision for the KU business school at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Room 1020 of Capitol Federal Hall.

In her role as associate dean of faculty affairs, Nan oversees a host of faculty matters, including recruitment, retention, evaluations, grievance procedures and other matters. Nan also oversees the management department at Purdue, which involves oversight of 138 full-time faculty members and includes planning work related to curriculum and teaching matters.

Prior to joining Purdue in 2012, Nan taught at the business school at Carnegie Mellon University. Nan has her doctorate in accounting from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in economics from West Virginia University, and her undergraduate degree in engineering from Tianjin University in China.

Nan is the second announced finalist for the dean position. Jide Wintoki, a professor of finance at the KU business school, was previously announced as a finalist. KU expects to announce two additional finalists in the coming days. Those finalists are scheduled to give public presentations on April 8 and April 10.

The dean position is open after former dean L. Paige Fields resigned the position last year as she returned to teaching and research duties on the KU business school faculty.
