A longtime executive in the publishing world — including with the large book publisher HarperCollins — has been named the next director of the University Press of Kansas.

Timothy Paulson has been appointed to the top position at the Lawrence-based publishing house, which serves KU and the other five Regents universities in Kansas.

Paulson most recently served as general manager of Brentwood Studios, a Tennessee-based media company that produces a variety of content for children.

Paulson previously was a vice president and publisher at HarperColins Christian Publishing, where he oversaw production of multiple New York Times bestsellers, according to a release.

At the University Press, he will oversee an operation that publishes about 45 new books per year, with a heavy emphasis on works related to history or regional matters.

The University Press has been run by a pair of interim directors since July 2022.
