KU assembles panel discussion on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; event is open to the public

KU leaders have finalized the details of a public presentation about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

A panel discussion and question-and-answer session will take place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Commons in Spooner Hall on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. The panel discussion, which is free and open to the public, is being organized by a variety of KU departments, including history, political science, Slavic and Eurasian languages, international affairs, the KU Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies and the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging.

Panel members are scheduled to include:

• Oleksandra Wallo, an associate professor in Slavic languages and literature, who also is the director of the KU Summer Language Institute in Lviv, Ukraine.

• Vitaly Chernetsky, a professor of Slavic languages and literature, who is a native of Odessa, Ukraine.

• Robert Rohrschneider, a distinguished professor in political science, who has written extensively about political parties in Eastern Europe.

• Erik Scott, an associate professor of humanities, who also is the editor of the scholarly journal “The Russian Review.”

• Valery Dzutsati, a visiting professor in political science, who writes widely about Eastern Europe.

• Ani Kokobobo, chair of KU’s Slavic & Eurasian Languages & Literatures department.

In addition to the panel discussion, KU is hosting a teach-in event for students that runs from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at The Commons in Spooner Hall.
