The dean of the law school at the University of Wisconsin is one of four finalists for the long-vacant position of provost at the University of Kansas, KU announced Friday morning.

Margaret Raymond, who has served as the dean of the University of Wisconsin Law School since July 2011, will visit KU’s Lawrence campus and deliver a public presentation Tuesday, Oct. 29.

The University of Wisconsin announced earlier this month that Raymond would step down from her position as UW law dean at the end of the academic year but would remain among the faculty of the school, where she also teaches. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Carleton College and a doctorate in law from Columbia University School of Law, where she ranked first in her graduating class, according to her curriculum vitae.

Raymond’s presentation will be in the Burge Union, Forum D, from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. A reception will follow in Forum A from 5 to 6 p.m. The presentation will be live-streamed and available online afterward at provostsearch.ku.edu.

Other candidates will be announced 48 hours in advance of their campus visits. The second provost candidate is scheduled to speak Thursday, Oct. 31.

KU has been without a permanent provost — the No. 2 leadership role at KU — since May 2018, when former provost Neeli Bendapudi left to become president of the University of Louisville.
