Four small houses made from garage doors have just been moved from Peaslee Tech to their permanent home in North Lawrence.
These affordable houses were built by students at the technical training center as part of a partnership with garage door company Amarr and housing nonprofit Tenants to Homeowners, and on Monday they were hauled across town to North Third Street. As the Journal-World reported, the houses are moved using a a specially designed trailer with wheels that fit inside of the structure. The next steps will be to move them onto their foundations and do the plumbing and interior finishes.
When complete, the houses will each have kitchen appliances, a small dining and living area, a porch, a bedroom and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. The garage doors they’re made of are insulated, with a hardened outer layer to protect the structure from the elements.
