Protesters gather in South Park to oppose anti-transgender legislation

Protesters gather in South Park in downtown Lawrence to speak out against anti-transgender legislation on Monday, March 23, 2026.
Protesters rallied in South Park on Monday to protest against anti-transgender legislation, including the Kansas “bathroom bill,” Senate Bill 244.
The demonstrators demanded that local institutions such as the University of Kansas and the City of Lawrence provide protections for the transgender community. It was organized by the Kansas City Branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Boots on the Ground, Save the Wakarusa Wetlands, JOCO Pride and other local and regional organizations.
