A local adult entertainment venue, The Outhouse, has been closed after Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health investigated mold complaints at the site.
Individuals reported to LDCPH that exposure to mold at The Outhouse, 1823 North 1500 Road, caused symptoms including respiratory irritation, headaches and sinus congestion that caused some people to seek medical attention, according to a news release from LDCPH.
LDCPH’s Environmental Health Team conducted an investigation on March 12 and found mold on interior surfaces, evidence of ongoing moisture intrusion, and a musty odor throughout the building, the release said.
On Monday, LDCPH issued an emergency health order to mitigate the mold exposure in The Outhouse. According to the order, the property owner must hire a mold remediation contractor to conduct a full assessment, develop and implement a remediation plan, conduct a follow-up sampling and notify LDCPH when the remediation is completed.
The property owner will also be required to repair the roof of the building to prevent further water and moisture damage and complete a deep cleaning of the walls, carpets, flooring, tables and other surfaces.
The health order, in effect since Wednesday, closes The Outhouse until remediation is completed.
