Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, were reportedly detaining individuals on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026.

Two organizations that keep the Lawrence community informed about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent activity will hold community trainings.

The organizations Sanctuary Alliance of Lawrence and Somos Lawrence will host a community solidarity and defense training on Sunday, March 29, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is open to anyone and required to attend. The location of the event will only be shared with those who register at https://bit.ly/MarchSolidarityTraining.

This training will focus on building practical skills and shared knowledge to help community members support and protect one another. Participants will learn what to do if they encounter immigration enforcement activity, review important “know your rights” information, and discuss ways to show solidarity with immigrant neighbors.

As the Journal-World reported, there have been many reports of ICE activity in Lawrence in February. Most recently, ICE agents were said to have detained one individual from the University of Kansas campus and another in a parking lot by Dick’s Sporting Goods on 27th and Iowa streets.

In addition to the community training, there will be another training specifically for KU faculty and staff at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at Ecumenical Campus Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave. KU staff can register for the event at shkd.us/pGTzYdg4.

The KU staff and faculty training will provide an overview of immigration enforcement procedures, connect participants with local community organizations, and create space to discuss campus response strategies with colleagues. It will also help employees better understand their rights and how to exercise them when needed.
