Lawrence Public Schools cancels classes for Monday; KU to start late due to predicted frigid temperatures

Winter weather has caused Lawrence Public Schools to cancel classes on Monday, while the University of Kansas is delaying the opening of the Lawrence campus until 10 a.m.

Lawrence’s USD 497 announced today that all classes and activities — including Boys & Girls Club services — are canceled for Monday, Jan. 26.

The University of Kansas on Sunday also announced that its Lawrence campus and its Edwards campus, which is in Johnson County, will be closed until 10 a.m.. As part of the announcement, KU said all classes scheduled to take place before 10 a.m. — including online classes — are canceled.

While the National Weather Service is not predicting additional snow on Monday for the Lawrence area, its Topeka office is forecasting wind chills of negative 9 to negative 19 degrees on Monday.

Several other area school districts have cancelled classes on Monday. They include:

• Eudora Public Schools

• Baldwin City Public Schools

• Perry-Lecompton Public Schools

• Tonganoxie Public Schools

• Haskell Indian Nations University is closing its Lawrence campus. All classes for the day will be moved to online status for the day.

• Baker University has canceled all university events and in-person classes on its Baldwin City campus through 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
