A panel discussion will highlight the impacts on health to the community as it relates to President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.
The panel will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium, 707 Vermont Street. It will include panelists from LMH Health, Alliance for Healthy Kansas, Friends of Haskell Indian Nations University and the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center.
The One Big Beautiful Bill is a legislative package that includes a combination of tax cuts and significant changes to social safety net programs. The bill also implements stricter work requirements for Medicaid and restricts eligibility for certain government programs like SNAP.
According to a press release from Lawrence Indivisible, the organization announced that the panel will discuss the challenges each represented organization faces due to the new legislation, their expectations for its future impact, the effects of funding cuts on Medicare and Medicaid, ways the community can get involved, and more.
Lawrence Indivisible is a local chapter of the national Indivisible movement, which is a group of people that resist what they consider authoritarianism and advocate for their political beliefs. The group focuses on local and national issues, such as healthcare, elections and other political topics.
