The Lawrence Public Library will be hosting its fifth annual Community Resource Fair this weekend, where community members can connect with free or low-cost resources ranging from haircuts to vaccinations to legal help.
The fair will be from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., and it’s intended to help people understand what resources are available to support them through a variety of life challenges, according to the library’s website.
This year, on-site services will include COVID and flu shots from Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health; free haircuts from Precision Cuts and Styling; a pop-up clothing and shoe closet by The Ballard Center; hygiene products and toiletries from Washed Ministries; free hats, mittens, gloves and other winter gear donated by community members; and light refreshments.
Some other organizations will also have representatives there. Among them:
• Heartland Community Health, as well as insurance support from Blue Cross Blue Shield (Medicare) and United Healthcare (Kancare/Medicaid)
• Mental health and substance use organizations, such as Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, HeadQuarters Kansas, Heartland RADAC and ALIVE Inc.
• Kansas Legal Services and the Douglas County District Court Self-Help Office
• Independence Inc., which provides advocacy and assistance for people with disabilities
• Community Children’s Center, which helps families and children in Douglas County connect to resources
People who have questions regarding the Community Resource Fair can contact Gabby Boyle at gboyle@lplks.org.
