The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority will soon begin accepting applications for its new affordable apartment complex for seniors, Delmar Place.
LDCHA will start taking applications on Monday, Jan. 5, for the new apartments at 2129 Clinton Parkway. Applicants must be low-income, over the age of 50 and meet other eligibility criteria, according to a press release from LDCHA. Preference will be given to applicants age 62 and over and Douglas County residents.
As the Journal-World reported, Delmar Place has 32 one-bedroom apartments, and its tenants will pay rent on a sliding scale based on 30% of their income. The project also features a number of fully accessible units under the Americans with Disabilities Act, specifically designed for seniors who use wheelchairs.
The building also accommodates devices for tenants with visual or hearing impairments and will provide support services like transportation, food delivery, recreational activities and access to on-site technology.
The project cost $4.7 million, with $3 million coming from an American Rescue Plan Act grant and $1.7 million from LDCHA’s reserve funds.
People who are already on the waiting list for LDCHA services and meet the age criteria can contact LDCHA to add Delmar Place to the type of housing they are interested in. Requests to be added to the Delmar Place wait list can be made in writing to LDCHA’s Edgewood Homes property, 1600 Haskell Ave., or in person.
