USDA service issues health alert for carnitas sold at Aldi stores nationwide

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service issued a public health alert on Saturday for possible metal contamination of a pork carnitas product that was sent to Aldi stores nationwide.

The fully-cooked meat was produced from April 1-2 in a 16-ounce package containing the words “Pork Carnitas seasoned & seared pork with juices slow cooked with citrus” with use-by dates of June 30, 2025, and July 1, 2025. The affected products contain the establishment number “Est. 46049” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

According to a press release from the Food and Safety Inspection Service, the problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that a routine check found equipment damage that may have contaminated the product.

There have been no confirmed reports of injury, but the organization urged consumers to check their refrigerators or freezers and return or discard any of the affected meat they may have. A recall was not requested because the product is no longer for sale.
