League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County received notice that their social media accounts have been suspended midst election season.

The League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County’s social media has been restored after staff was unable to access their accounts for a week.

According to a post on the nonprofit’s Facebook page, both its Facebook and Instagram accounts appeared to be restored as of Wednesday. This was after staff received notification on Sept. 11 of their accounts being suspended. In addition to expressing their gratitude for access once again, they thanked everyone who came out for the Kansas Senate and Douglas County Commission candidate forums held earlier this week.

As the Journal-World reported, the League of Women Voters received notification from Facebook that the nonprofit’s page had been “suspended” for “violating community standards,” particularly “impersonation.” The league was also locked out of its Instagram account. Sonja Czarnecki, president of League of Women Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County, said she addressed the situation immediately, but she was concerned as the organization needed to get information out to voters during election season.

The league uses social media to publicize voter education events, important deadlines and critical information for voters — all especially important in a presidential election year.
