Many people attended the K-State Research and Extension Open House on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

Douglas County Extension Council will be hosting its third annual celebration breakfast to recognize the contributions of partners, volunteers and community members and to discuss what to expect from the extension service in 2025.

The event, which started in 2022, will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Dec. 13 at the Arterra Event Gallery, 2161 Quail Creek Dr., and the public is encouraged to attend.

The celebration will honor the Douglas County Community Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that supports a variety of other community organizations through gifts and investments that are managed by the foundation. Ginny Barnard, executive director of LiveWell Douglas County, will also be the guest speaker for this event.

The extension service, which historically has helped members of rural communities, has been active in a variety of projects that align with its mission to make Douglas County a better place to live. The organization helped establish Douglas County CORE, a nonprofit organization that works to develop an entrepreneurial climate in Douglas County, The extensions service also is involved in the Heartland Food Regional Business Center, whose Business Builder grant program will soon award grants of between $5,000 and $50,000 to support businesses that address food needs.

Registration for the annual celebration is required as space is limited. People can reserve their spot for the event at www.douglas.k-state.edu.
