Salvation Army introducing no-cash tap option at two red kettle sites in Lawrence

The Salvation Army plans to have its iconic red kettles around Lawrence for charitable contributions, but this holiday season shoppers will be able to just tap their cards at two locations.

At the two Walmart locations in Lawrence, you’ll hear those familiar bells, but if you have no cash it won’t be a problem. Shoppers will be able to give by simply tapping their contactless card, phone or watch on “tiptap” devices – the same way they do in stores.

“This is called ‘Tap to Give’ and we are excited to test it this year at these locations in Lawrence,” said Lt. Landon McClintock, a leader for The Salvation Army in Lawrence and Douglas County. “We know that many people no longer carry cash, so this is a great opportunity to still help others.”

The red kettles and Tap to Give will appear at the two Walmarts starting Saturday. Other kettles will be around Lawrence as well, but without the tap option. Donations from the kettles and other holiday efforts will be used to enable The Salvation Army to help many individuals and families in Lawrence and Douglas County during the Christmas season and beyond.

If you would like to sign up to ring at the kettle, contact The Salvation Army at (785) 843-4188 or at Landon.McClintock@usc.salvationarmy.org.
