KU Volleyball Associate Head Coach Laura Kuhn sorts through a pile of coats Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, while volunteering for the annual Share the Warmth coat drive, sponsored by The Salvation Army of Douglas County and Scotch Fabric Services.

The Salvation Army and Scotch Fabric Services are teaming to provide coats to people in need this winter.

Donated coats will be collected and cleaned by Scotch Fabric Services and then given out for free during The Salvation Army’s annual coat distribution in Lawrence.

This is the 38th year for the charitable event. Coats can be donated until Nov. 23 at the following locations: 1526 W. 23rd St., 611 Florida St. or 721 Wakarusa Drive.

“We are so thankful to have Scotch’s annual help with this,” said Lt. Landon McClintock, a leader for The Salvation Army in Lawrence and Douglas County. “The smiles and warmth we see when these much-needed coats are given away is so special.”

Last year, 727 coats were cleaned and distributed through the coat drive. Over the past 37 years, the drive has totaled 85,676 coats, according to a news release from the agency.

This year’s coat distribution will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the north entrance of The Salvation Army, 1202 E. 23rd St. Volunteers are needed on those two days.
