A Storytime collaboration between the Lawrence Public Library and the transit system will feature stories, crafts and a real trip on the bus.

Lawrence Transit staff will join the Lawrence Public Library to provide a special “Take Me for A Ride Storytime” — a collaboration that will feature stories, crafts and a real trip on the bus.

Storytime will include books about transportation, followed by a bus-themed craft project. Children and their families will be able to board a Lawrence Transit bus for a short trip around downtown. The featured vehicle will be one of the city’s 100% electric buses.

“I remember talking to a couple of teenagers last year who used fare free Route 6 to go from the Library to Rock Chalk Park after school,” Adam Weigel, director of Transit, said in the city’s news release Wednesday. “The bus provides freedom for people in Lawrence not yet of driving age, so we hope these young readers can soon become young riders.”

The Storytime event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday and Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the library’s auditorium, 707 Vermont St. Groups will take turns completing the craft project and boarding the bus for a trip around downtown.
