Saturday’s community Día de los Muertos event to change locations, move inside due to weather

An outdoor Día de los Muertos event for scheduled for Saturday in Lawrence has announced it is moving to a new indoor location due to predicted stormy weather this weekend.
The community group Somos Lawrence, which is hosting the event in partnership with the Senior Resource Center for Douglas County and the Percolator Artist Collective, announced the event will now take place inside the Sunrise Project building at 1501 Learnard Avenue. The event will continue to be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Originally, the event was scheduled to take place at John Taylor Park in North Lawrence.
The event is a tradition in Latino cultures that pays tribute to deceased loved one. The main altar at the event will be dedicated to departed grandparents and elders. The event is open to all in the community.
People who have altars to set up can do so Friday afternoon at the Sunrise Project and can also begin setting up altars at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
