The Radical Jewelry Makeover project takes unwanted jewelry and repurposes it into new pieces.

If you’re a bit tired of your current jewelry but don’t want to throw it out, the Lawrence Arts Center will happily accept it Friday on behalf of the Radical Jewelry Makeover project.

The project will take donated jewelry and repurpose it into new pieces, in an effort to promote creativity as well as sustainability.

People interested in donating can drop off their items from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the main lobby of the Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

Donors will receive discount coupons for the new jewelry that’s created, and proceeds will support Ethical Metalsmiths’ mission for responsible sourcing.

Ethical Metalsmiths is partnering with the University of Kansas Metalsmithing/Jewelry program for the event.

The revamped creations will be exhibited and available for sale in early 2025, according to the Radical Jewelry Makeover website.

All types of costume jewelry will be accepted, and if you are considering giving gold or silver, it could be tax deductible if you provide an official appraisal document with the donation.

If you can’t make it to Friday’s dropoff at the Arts Center, you can mail your donation to: Sunyoung Cheong, KU Visual Art, Chalmers Hall No. 300, 1467 Jayhawk Blvd., Lawrence KS 66045. Or you can drop it off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Chalmers Hall No. 300, 1467 Jayhawk Blvd. on the KU campus.
