A contractor who was electrocuted earlier this month while working near a power line was a 25-year-old Overbrook man, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday.

Ian Matheau Trego died Aug. 14 at LMH Health after being electrocuted earlier that day in the 1400 block of East 920 Road. As the Journal-World reported, a co-worker heard a loud pop noise and found Trego unresponsive.

Trego was born in 1998 in Topeka and served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft hydraulic systems journeyman from 2017 to 2022, according to his obituary. He was a field technician for B9 Technology Solutions in Overbrook.

He is survived by his wife, Hailey, and two children. A memorial service with military honors for Trego was held Thursday morning in Overbrook.

“Ian’s life revolved around his family,” his obituary said. He “enjoyed being outdoors, shooting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and playing cards. He was a selfless, compassionate, and joyful person who had a big heart for everyone.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up for Trego’s family. The page states that “Ian’s tragic accident, resulting in electrocution at a job site, has left his family facing immense emotional and financial challenges. In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Hailey now bears the weight of caring for their young children alone, navigating a future without her partner’s unwavering support.”
