The southeast corner of Centennial Skate Park is set to be the site of a $250,000 addition this year, which will add a "street-style plaza" to the existing park at 600 Rockledge Road.

The City of Lawrence’s Parks and Recreation Department wants to know what community members want to see from an upcoming expansion to Centennial Skate Park.

The department is seeking feedback through a survey that’s open through the end of the day Monday.

As the Journal-World reported, Lawrence leaders last month granted approval to execute a $250,000 contract with Evergreen Skateparks, an Oregon contractor, to design and install an addition to the existing skate park at 600 Rockledge Road this year. Once completed, the addition is supposed to integrate a “street-style plaza” — including elements like benches, stairs and handrails — with the existing skate park elements.

According to the survey, the planned expansion will result in a roughly 50% increase of the park’s size, bringing it from roughly 8,000 square feet to about 12,000 square feet.
