Nine-month-old Violette Brintnall and her mother, Brittany Cummings, center, play in the water at the city's new splash pad at Burroughs Creek park, 900 E. 15th St., on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Cummings, who lives near the park, said, “We’re going to be here a ton.”
The splash pad along Burroughs Creek Trail opened Thursday for the summer season, and the city’s outdoor public pool will open in June, the City of Lawrence said in a press release announcing aquatic activities.
The splash pad, near 15th Street and Haskell Avenue along Burroughs Creek Trail, is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. The splash pad debuted in July of last year.
The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., and the South Park Wading Pool, 1141 Massachusetts St., will both open June 5. Hours for those facilities are as follows:
• Outdoor Aquatic Center, from June 5 to Aug. 13, Monday-Friday from 1 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
• The South Park Wading Pool, which is free, will be open from June 5 to July 29, Monday-Friday from 1 to 7 p.m., except for July 4, when it will be closed. Saturday hours will be 1 to 6 p.m., and Sunday it will be closed.
Daily admission at the Outdoor Aquatic Center will be:
• $6 for ages 3 to 17 and adults 60 and older.
• $7 for adults 18 to 59.
• There is no charge for kids 2 and under with an adult paid admission; there’s a limit of three children per paying adult.
Aquatic passes and punch cards are also available at the aquatic center. Initial passes need to be purchased in person at an aquatic facility; those who already have a pass can renew online.
