FRIDAY

• Children and their families are invited this weekend to Landmark Activity Days at the Dole Institute of Politics, 2350 Petefish Dr., for fun summer activities, including games, crafts, scavenger hunts and more. • City Playcorps presents its Pop-Up Adventure Playground for ages 4-12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your children to the Lawrence Public Library lawn, 707 Vermont St., where they can explore and create with a collection of tubes, boxes, spools and more.

• One of the oldest city celebrations in Kansas, the Eudora CPA picnic, kicks off its 122nd year this weekend in downtown Eudora. Food trucks, a beer garden and a carnival will be open each night. The annual Kids’ Parade takes place Friday at 7 p.m. See Saturday’s listing for additional details.

• The musical comedy “Something Rotten!” which opened last weekend at Theatre Lawrence, 4660 Bauer Farm Drive, continues with evening and matinee performances through June 25. See theatrelawrence.com for curtain times and ticket information.

SATURDAY

• The public is invited to the Juneteenth celebration in downtown Lawrence. A parade will begin on Eighth Street at 11 a.m. and will proceed to South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., where folks can enjoy live music, children’s activities, Lawrence oral histories and much more from noon to 8 p.m. A live concert with Grammy Award winner Macy Gray has been announced as part of the celebration, but the time of the performance has not been disclosed as of Thursday afternoon. • All seats are full for Saturday’s Underground Railroad Bus Tour from 1 to 3 p.m., but the Watkins Museum of History invites people to add their names to the waiting list at www.watkinsmuseum.org.

• The Douglas County Democrats invite the public to “Existence and Resistance,” this month’s Saturday Seminar on LGBTQ+ rights. Activists will participate in a panel discussion on current and upcoming issues and legislation. Meet at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., at 9:30 a.m. for networking. After the discussion at 10 a.m., participants are invited to walk to South Park for the Juneteenth celebration.

• Join the Lawrence Education Association for a free ice cream social from noon to 1:30 p.m. Meet with LEA members, local and state officials and candidates for the Lawrence City Commission and school board election. Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

• Several registration spots still remain for “Qi Gong on the Lawn,” a beginners lesson in this aspect of Chinese traditional medicine. All abilities welcome. The event is from 4 to 5 p.m. on the lawn next to the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. Please register in advance at lplks.org.

• Trinity Episcopal Church will hold its free event “Third Saturday Beers and Boards” beginning at 6 p.m. Bring your own beverage and snacks; several board games will be available, or you can bring your own to 1011 Vermont St.; enter at the southeast doors.

• The 122nd CPA Picnic continues in downtown Eudora. Live music will be featured Saturday evening, and the Grand Parade will be at 7 p.m. The carnival will open at 6 p.m., and food trucks will be on site.

• The Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive, will present “Freedom Has a Voice: Dance Narratives,” a Juneteenth performance cohosted by Life Restoration Ministries and the Lied Center at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

SUNDAY

• The Lawrence Public Library is closed Sunday and Monday in honor of the Juneteenth holiday.

MONDAY

• City of Lawrence offices are closed Monday in honor of Juneteenth. See lawrenceks.org for details.

WEDNESDAY

• A community song circle to honor the summer solstice will take place at 6 p.m. at the Delaware Street Commons, 1222 Delaware St. Bring your chairs and blankets. Donations welcome (suggested $10-$25).

• Join KU faculty, staff and students for a summer solstice celebration and informal garden tour at the KU Field Station, 1865 East 1600 Road., at 6:30 p.m. Ecological research scientist Kelly Kindscher will lead the tour, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions.

• The Lawrence City Band continues its free summer concert series with the theme “Those Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” The music starts at 8 p.m. at South Park. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move to the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive.
