Weekend events include Final Friday, county fair, outdoor activities, yoga and more

FRIDAY

• The July Final Friday art walk will take place at various venues around Lawrence, generally from 5 to 9 p.m. See a number of art exhibits and performances downtown and elsewhere. For information on specific venues, see www.explorelawrence.com

• It’s county fair time. Buildings at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St., are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Activities include a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m., a petting zoo and pony rides in Building 8, and these evening highlights: a bale throwing contest — registration 5:30 p.m., contest 6 p.m. — in the blacktop area; carnival shows and rides, 6 p.m.-midnight; live music by The Rounders, 7-10 p.m., in the stage area (free admission); demolition derby at 7:30 p.m. (derby tickets on sale at fair office or on Eventbrite.com).

• Musical comedy is on tap at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., where “The Prom” will be staged at 7 p.m. This Summer Youth Theatre production will be repeated on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. See lawrenceartscenter.org for ticket information.

SATURDAY

• The Downtown Lawrence Farmers’ Market, 824 New Hampshire St., will feature sweet corn, tomatoes and other produce, as well as homemade baked goods, crafts and more, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.

• The Douglas County Fair continues with a turtle race, pedal tractor pull, petting zoo, pony rides, Barnyard Olympics, cornhole championship and an ice cream social. Other highlights include carnival attractions from 1 to midnight; live music by Similar Animal from 8 to 11 p.m. in the stage area; and a demolition derby at 8 p.m. Tickets for the derby are on sale at the fair office or on Eventbrite.com. Note: The carnival’s special bracelet price will be from 1 to 5 p.m.

• Community Children’s Center presents the family-friendly “Community Quest! A Scavenger Hunt” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cider Gallery, 810 Pennsylvania St. Bring the kids and follow clues around downtown Lawrence and the KU campus, picking up items or taking photos, meeting challenges, then returning to the Cider Gallery for refreshments and children’s activities. • Join the staff of Prairie Park Nature Center from 6 to 8 p.m. for “Breakfast for Dinner With the Animals.” The family event at 2730 Harper St. includes food, games and prizes alongside the Nature Center’s animals. Tickets are $15, with free admission for ages 3 and under. Register online at lprd.org.

• The Vintage Church Auditorium, 1501 New Hampshire St., is hosting a concert series featuring original singer-songwriters. Saturday’s featured performer is Slaid Cleaves of Austin, Texas. The show begins at 8 p.m.; tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com.

SUNDAY

• The KU Natural History Museum’s Paleo Garden Plant Sale will wrap up Sunday. Select cuttings from the garden will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Plant prices range from $3 to $9. The event is at Dyche Hall, 1345 Jayhawk Blvd.

• Free community yoga will be presented in person at the Sunrise Project, 1501 Learnard Ave., at 5 p.m. This free, safe, inclusive yoga practice can also be accessed via Zoom; contact the Sunrise Project or see its social media for meeting ID and password.

• The Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts St., will host the “FidPick Fundraiser,” an evening of live music and a raffle, for the benefit of the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships. The music starts at 5 p.m.
