Haskell Indian Nations University mentioned a new interim president in a news release on Tuesday morning, but it’s unclear when such a change might have taken place or what that means for the university’s search for a permanent leader.
A news release on Tuesday announcing a new vice president of academics includes a quote from Julia Good Fox, who is identified in the release as Haskell’s interim president. However, on Haskell’s website, Tamarah Pfeiffer was still listed as the interim president, and Good Fox was listed as the dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences. Pfeiffer served as interim president for the past year.
The university has not specifically announced a change in the interim president position, and apart from Tuesday’s news release, it hasn’t made any statements suggesting that a change in leadership has taken place.
In an attempt to learn more about Good Fox’s role at the university, the Journal-World reached out to Good Fox — who is listed as the contact on the press release — twice throughout the day on Tuesday, but she did not answer those phone calls.
It is unclear what this means for Haskell’s permanent president search. The Bureau of Indian Education, which oversees Haskell’s operations, told U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., directly at the end of April that a new president had been chosen, the same day Moran sent a formal inquiry to BIE Director Tony Dearman.
But the BIE didn’t disclose who it was or when it would formally announce its selection, and the BIE still hasn’t done so nearly a month later. Moran, for his part, previously told the Journal-World that he has been frustrated with the bureaucracy and the lack of communication from the federal agency guiding Haskell’s operations.
