Cinema a Go-Go is presenting a Dino Double Feature on Friday.

This weekend in Lawrence includes dinosaurs, severe weather information, the annual Shamrock Shuffle, music, theater and a live podcast performance, plus a bonus Monday event.

THURSDAY

It’s the first weekend of Severe Weather Preparedness Month, and Douglas County Emergency Management is offering “Weather 101” today, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Flory Meeting Hall, Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. The free workshop will offer educational information on severe storm development as well as weather safety tips.

FRIDAY

Tonight’s virtual “Cinema a Go Go” features two dinosaur films: “Unknown Island” (1948), often cited as having the world’s worst dinosaur special effects; and “The Beast of Hollow Mountain” (1956), in which a T. rex comes out of hiding to terrorize cattle ranchers. Participants watching online from the comfort of home can add their snarky comments in the group chat. The fun begins at 7 p.m.; admission is free, but viewers must register at https://kansaspublicradio.org to receive the livestream link.

Music by African American composers will be featured at the “Lift Every Voice Concert” tonight at 7:30 at KU’s Swarthout Recital Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive. The event commemorates the landing of the first slave ships on American shores in 1619.

Theatre Lawrence offers the Agatha Christie classic “And Then There Were None” this weekend – tonight, Saturday and Sunday – at 4660 Bauer Farm Drive. See theatrelawrence.com for performance times, ticket availability and pricing.

Also this weekend, KU Theatre presents Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure.” The KU production, reimagined with a Dodge City setting, will be performed today, Saturday and Sunday at the William Inge Memorial Theatre in Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive. SATURDAY

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee hosts its annual Shamrock Shuffle, rain or shine, at 9 a.m. The races begin and end at Johnny’s Tavern, 410 N. Second St., with the routes wending through North Lawrence and the Pinkney Neighborhood. Breakfast and awards will follow. See runsignup.com for details on the 5K, 10K, virtual and family 5K races.

Many local residents have fond memories of Lawrence guitarist John Jervis, who died recently. Jervis’ talent and willingness to share his knowledge are reflected in local shop Guitarma’s offering of free guitar and ukulele lessons at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. Register for a spot in one of the 25-minute lessons at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4aaaa62ba1f9ce9-john. Students are welcome at novice, intermediate and advanced levels. Another day of lessons will be offered on March 19.

A kickoff fundraiser for Limestone School (limestoneschool.com) takes place tonight, 7-10 p.m., at Cider Gallery, 810 Pennsylvania St. Guests can enjoy food from Merchants Pub & Plate, Rad Platter and pastry chef Nancy Stark as well as live music while learning about this new educational opportunity opening in the fall. Join Lawrence and Kansas City musicians and dancers for “Songs from Ireland” at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. The show will feature traditional and contemporary Irish music performed by Carswell & Hope, Ashley Davis, Calvin Arsenia, Katlyn Conroy and Shannon O’Shea, as well as a performance by the Kansas City Irish Dance Company. Local creatives Will Averill and Chris Nelson will present a live taping of their “Double Deuce Podcast” at RPG, 724 Massachusetts St. The taping will be free and open to the public, with RPG drinks, food and games available at usual menu prices. SUNDAY

The Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., hosts “Music at Your Library” at 2 this afternoon with performances by students from the KU School of Music. Free and open to the public.

MONDAY

The weekend is officially over, but there’s one more fun event coming up Monday, 6-7 p.m., when the Lawrence Arts Center and the Lawrence Public Library present a St. Patrick’s Day Céilí Party at the library, 707 Vermont St. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early with a free Irish step dance performance, then stay to participate in traditional Irish group dances led by Annie Stark.
