Taro Takizawa, left, and Twiggy Boden have been chosen as the Lawrence Arts Center's artists in residence for 2022-23.

The Lawrence Arts Center has selected a printmaker and a ceramicist as its artists in residence for 2022-23, the center announced Friday.

Taro Takizawa is a Japanese artist who “explores the intersection of Western and Eastern aesthetics through printmaking, wall vinyl installations, drawings, and 2D designs,” according to the announcement.

Twiggy Boden, “a queer interdisciplinary ceramics artist born in the Midwest, examines gender constructs through sculpture and wearable art,” the announcement said.

The yearlong residency program at the Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., is meant to provide a supportive environment where the artists can develop their crafts. The artists will also lend their expertise in classrooms at the center and “spur meaningful dialogue about contemporary art within our community.”

On Aug. 25, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., the public can meet the artists and see their current works-in-progress, in addition to learning more from the Arts Center education team about fall classes.
