UPDATED Many print subscribers of Journal-World won’t receive paper Saturday due to printing malfunction
Several thousand Journal-World subscribers won’t receive their newspapers on Saturday due to a major malfunction at the printing plant that produces the newspaper.
A key piece of equipment at the St. Joseph, Mo.-based printing company broke while printing the Journal-World early Saturday morning. While the Journal-World originally believed the newspapers would arrive several hours late, further delays were encountered as crews worked to fix the problem.
As a result, Journal-World carriers likely will not be able to deliver papers to all subscribers on Saturday. Instead, anyone who didn’t receive a paper on Saturday will receive the Saturday edition on Sunday, in addition to the newspaper’s Sunday edition. All print subscribers of the Journal-World will have their subscriptions extended by an additional day so that they are not charged for Saturday’s newspaper.
“We’re very disappointed to not be able to complete delivery on Saturday,” Journal-World Editor and Publisher Chad Lawhorn said. “We will continue to work with our printing partners to try to prevent such scenarios in the future. We greatly appreciate the support of all of our customers who value making the newspaper a part of their morning routines. I apologize that we weren’t able to deliver today.”
The Journal-World received about one third of its newspapers on Saturday morning and delivered those to a portion of the newspaper’s subscriber base.
Any Journal-World subscriber can go to ljworld.com and click on the Today’s Paper tab at the top of the homepage to see an electronic replica of today’s print edition. The Journal-World has temporarily disable the log in procedure so that customers can easily access the e-edition.
