The Lawrence Humane Society is celebrating the holiday season with low-cost pet adoptions and a Santa visit.
On Friday, the Humane Society will kick off its Home for the Pawlidays adoption event. From Friday through Sunday, the adoption fees of all animals 6 months or older will be just $20. Normal adoption fees vary, but generally adoption fees are $150 for adult dogs and $60 for adult cats.

The adoption event includes animals who are in foster care and in the shelter. The Humane Society encourages people to check out its website to see all of the animals available for adoption. A wall at the shelter also features photos of animals currently in foster care. If anyone is interested in meeting and potentially adopting an animal in foster care, adoption counselors can set up a meeting, according to a news release from the shelter.
Santa Claus will be at the Humane Society on Saturday, greeting folks and passing out candy canes. The shelter, open from noon to 5 every day for adoptions, will also have a hot chocolate bar and will be taking holiday-themed adoption photos.
