A remodeling project is underway on the first floor of the Douglas County Courthouse.

The county announced Monday that work has commenced to house accounts payable, payroll and real estate employees with the Douglas County Clerk’s Office in one space — the area on the first floor of the courthouse previously occupied by the Douglas County Elections Office. Those employees have, until now, been working in different spaces on various floors of the courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St.

The Douglas County Commission green-lit the project last month, which county staff described then as “the first of many steps” in remodeling the courthouse. The county expects this project to be finished in roughly four months.

That first-floor space has been variously occupied by county staff since the Elections Office moved last year to its new location at 711 W. 23rd St.

Those with questions or who need to purchase a permit or license from the County Clerk’s Office will now be able to find a staff member located at the entrance of the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office, across the rotunda on the first floor.
