Heartland Community Health Center will soon add pharmaceutical care to its services, with an emphasis on affordable options for underserved patients who otherwise wouldn’t have access to health care, the center announced Friday.

River City Pharmacy, which will be housed at the recently renovated Heartland facility at 1312 W. Sixth St., will host a grand opening at 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release. Through the new pharmacy, members of the public — along with Heartland and Panda Pediatrics patients — will be able to get prescriptions filled and obtain over-the-counter products in-store, by phone or online. The pharmacy will also offer medication counseling and other services.

The release notes that River City will be a 340B pharmacy. Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act requires pharmaceutical manufacturers participating in Medicaid to sell outpatient drugs at discounted prices to health care organizations that care for many uninsured and low-income patients.

“We are excited to offer expanded pharmaceutical services through River City Pharmacy,” Director of Pharmacy Brittany Wessels said in the release. “This new service allows Heartland to provide patients access to all their health care needs in one location and increases community access to affordable medications.”
