Scouts to collect food for spring drive this weekend

On Saturday, Douglas County Cub and Boy Scouts will visit Lawrence, Baldwin City and Eudora neighborhoods to pick up donated food on front porches.

Paul Taylor, district executive of the Pelathe Boy Scout District, said scouts left notices and bags Saturday on front doors of residences in the three cities. They will return to collect nonperishable food items left in the bags after 9 a.m. Saturday, April 3. County residents also can deliver food for the drive by 1 p.m. Saturday to The Salvation Army in Lawrence, 946 New Hampshire St.

The scouts will deliver donations to food pantries in the three county cities, Taylor said. During their drive last fall, county scouts collected more than 15,000 food items.
