A local arts-based social service organization handed out free lunches to the community Monday as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The 18- to 24-year-old students in the Arts Train program at Van Go, 715 New Jersey St., helped prepare the meals under the direction of local chef Raven Naramore. The effort was in partnership with Sunrise Project, Checkers Foods and Wheatfields Bakery, among others.

The 150 pasta meals, which included meat and vegetarian options, were given out on a first-come, first-served basis at the organization’s parking lot.
