A few community events are on tap for this long holiday weekend, including the traditional community dinner on Christmas Day. Many local businesses, including restaurants, will have special hours this weekend or will be closed; be sure to call ahead.

Thursday

• Historic Lecompton’s Annual Christmas Tree Display, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Territorial Capital Museum, 640 E. Woodson Ave., Lecompton.

• “Behind the Bricks” – For $20, you get a unique tour of the Watkins Museum of History building, plus a copy of “A Thing of Beauty: The Story of the Watkins Building.” Pre-registration not required; pay on arrival, 1047 Massachusetts St.

• As of this writing, limited tickets are still available for the Kansas City Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Call for reservations. • Community Christmas Dinner, 12:30-2:30 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a free holiday meal. In addition to the in-person dinner, meals will also be delivered. Anyone who did not preorder a meal can request delivery by calling 785-841-1516 after 6 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday

• Festival of Nativities, noon-4 p.m., Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St. A collection of Nativity scenes from around the world.
