Douglas County reported 2,462 cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, an increase of 51 cases since Friday.
The county has averaged about 16 new cases per day over the last 14 days, according to a 14-day moving average graph updated weekdays by the health department. The current average of 16 new cases per day is down from a high of 46 cases per day in early September and up from a recent low of nine cases per day in early August.
In Douglas County, 2,067 out of the 2,462 cases are inactive or beyond the infectious period, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health. That means 395 cases are active.
The health department reported that the county’s 14-day average positivity rate is at 6.1%. This percentage has been on a downward trend since early September, when it hit a high of 9.8%.
The virus has killed 13 county residents, including three deaths announced last week by Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health. On Monday, there were four patients at Lawrence’s hospital with COVID-19, the same number as Friday. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s online map noted that 30,534 Douglas County residents had been tested for the disease so far. The county’s testing rate per 1,000 people was 249.7.
