Virtual meetings to gather public feedback on SLT expansion options, including tolled expressway
Area residents will soon have the chance to provide feedback to the Kansas Department of Transportation about the expansion of the South Lawrence Trafficway, including the idea to add a tolled expressway.
KDOT and the Federal Highway Administration have announced plans for a virtual open house that will run from May 14 to May 28. As part of the virtual meetings, the public can access information about the ongoing environmental impact study regarding the expansion of the western leg of the SLT and the expansion options being considered. Those options include both an open-access and partially tolled highway of either four or six lanes, as the Journal-World recently reported.
During the meetings, participants can submit questions and comments through an online form that will go directly to the project team and team will respond as needed, according to the announcement. To attend the virtual meeting, visit slt-ks.org between May 14 and May 28 and follow the public meeting links on the front page. After the conclusion of the virtual meeting, a summary of questions and comments and meeting materials will be posted on the website. Those who need special assistance, would like to request a hard copy version or would like to discuss with a project team member can contact Kelsey Heavin at 816-527-2468 or kheavin@hntb.com.
