Tamara Dutton, a Friends of the Public Library volunteer, shelves books Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, in the basement of the Lawrence Public Library in preparation for the fall book sale.
The Lawrence Public Library Friends and Foundation will host a virtual book sale Friday night via Facebook live.
From 7 to 9 p.m., book lovers can hop online and watch as Angela Hyde, Friends and volunteer coordinator for the library, shows which books are for sale.
“I’m going to grab a book…and I’m going to stick a tab in the book,” Hyde says in an explanatory video posted on the Friends and Foundation Facebook page. “And I’ll say, ‘This is item No. 1.’ If you want this, you’ve got to be the first person to type ‘Sold’ and ‘Item No. 1’ in the live video comments.”
The Lawrence Public Library Friends and Foundation hosts several book sales during the year. For this virtual sale, books will sell for $2, and buyers can pay through PayPal or Square. Free local delivery will be available for orders over $25; a $2 delivery fee will apply for local orders under $25.
To receive books, participants must fill out an online form giving the library their payment and delivery preferences. A link to the form is available on the Lawrence Public Library Friends and Foundation’s Facebook event for the book sale.
In the explanatory video, Hyde notes that there are about 64,000 books for sale. But she’ll only sell books during the two-hour time slot, or “until my arms fall off,” so she recommends that participants tell her what types of books they are looking for in advance.
“It would really be awesome if you could let me know what you’re looking for — genres, authors. Type those in the comments below, I’ll pull some stuff together and see what we can do,” she said.
