The 2020 Veterans Day Parade — scheduled for Nov. 7 — has been canceled, the Lawrence Veterans Day Parade Association announced in a Friday press release.

The statement says the board of directors determined that the “current and ongoing public health emergency creates unavoidable risks to our veterans, volunteers, and surrounding communities.”

The board will seek alternative methods to honor and thank veterans, the release stated, and charity efforts for Douglas County veterans will continue based on previously provided donations.
