More snow, rain expected in Lawrence this week

The Lawrence area will see several chances for snow and rain before the weekend.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory until noon Wednesday for Douglas County and other portions of northeast Kansas.

The weather service predicts total snow accumulations from 1 to 4 inches through Wednesday night, with a light glaze of ice also possible.

The winter weather is expected to move into the Lawrence area late Tuesday night, around midnight. Snow, rain and freezing rain are possible in the early hours Wednesday morning, with accumulating snow up to 1 inch, the weather service said.

A wintry mix is expected to fall throughout Wednesday morning and afternoon, with another 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible during the day. Rain and snow may continue through Wednesday evening, when another inch of snow may accumulate.

Thursday and Friday may bring more chances for rain and snow, the weather service said.

Little variation in temperature is expected over the next couple of days as the winter weather moves through the Lawrence area, the weather service said. Temperatures should remain steady in the 30s from Tuesday night into Friday, with winds around 10 miles per hour.
