Winter weather expected Tuesday morning in Lawrence area

Snow and ice could fall on the area Tuesday during the morning commute to and from Lawrence.
The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory for Douglas County and surrounding areas from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Snow, possibly mixed with sleet and freezing rain, is expected in the morning before transitioning to rain and possible freezing rain in the afternoon, according to the weather service. Early morning temperatures around 30 degrees could reach the lower 40s Tuesday, with southeast winds 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. The weather service predicts about 1 inch of snow and sleet accumulation Tuesday in Douglas County, with ice accumulation of less than a quarter of an inch.
More rain and a chance for snow is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, as temperatures once again dip to around 30 degrees.
Wintry precipitation could continue throughout Wednesday, with temperatures expected to stay in the lower 30s, according to the weather service.
