Downtown’s annual Halloween trick-or-treating event will take place Thursday evening and will be followed by a new community Halloween party.

Downtown trick-or-treating begins at 5 p.m. and goes “until the candy runs out,” or until about 6:30 p.m., according to the Downtown Lawrence Inc. Facebook event page. More than 100 downtown businesses typically participate.

The weather Halloween night is expected to be cold, with a daytime high of only about 38 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The low for Thursday night is predicted to be around 23 degrees.

Downtown Lawrence is also partnering to host a new community Halloween party this year, the Mass Street Monster Mash. The event will include haunted houses, costume contests for people and dogs, music, games, cookie decorating, jack-o’-lantern gallery, face painting, food vendors and a Halloween-themed cash bar.

Admission for kids 12 and under is free. Tickets for adults and those over 13 are $7 if purchased in advance or $10 at the door. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at Abe and Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. The event is presented by Downtown Lawrence; Wonderfair; Tom Harper, realtor; and Abe and Jake’s Landing.
