Lawrence’s Headquarters Inc. receives record gift of $150K, will hire additional crisis counselor

Headquarters Inc., Lawrence’s suicide prevention helpline and counseling service, has received a gift of $150,000, which is the largest single donation ever made to the organization, according to a news release Tuesday from Headquarters.

The donation by the Earlene & Robert Neuway Legacy Fund is meant to improve efficiency and increase crisis capacity.

Citing a 45% surge in use of its local suicide prevention and emotional crisis line as well as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the past four years, Headquarters plans to use the gift to hire one additional crisis counselor and continue to train new volunteer counselors to staff the 24/7 crisis center.

“This grant ensures more Kansans are aware of the crisis services offered through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and will allow Headquarters, Inc. additional opportunities to communicate with individuals throughout the entire State,” Steve Devore, executive director of Headquarters, said in the release.
