Thursday will be an evening for witches, wizards and Muggles to celebrate at Harry Potter Book Night in Lawrence.

All ages of Harry Potter fans are invited and encouraged to wear a costume to the event, which is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Abe and Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St. This year’s theme is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The free event — sponsored by the Lawrence Public Library, Ranjbar Orthodontics, Abe and Jake’s and Downtown Lawrence Inc. — will feature food, drinks, crafts, trivia and wizard shops.

This is the fifth year Harry Potter Book Night has been celebrated around the world, according to the Bloomsbury webpage. The celebration is all about passing on the magic of J.K. Rowling’s books to the next generation of readers. Hundreds of events are planned in bookshops, libraries and schools all around the world.
