Rainfall varied overnight around Lawrence; next round of storms could be severe

Rainfall amounts overnight Thursday varied from .27 inches at the Lawrence Municipal Airport to upward of .75 inches around town, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.

However, storms are expected to return Friday evening, overnight and through the weekend, according to Kevin Skow, a meteorologist with the weather service.

While severe weather stayed west of Lawrence Thursday night, a chance for severe weather in Lawrence lingers, Skow said. Rainfall could vary, but 1 to 2 inches could fall through Saturday. Chances for rain remain in the forecast through Sunday morning.

Eight months into 2019, Lawrence has received 33.5 inches of rain.

“That’s a little over 8 inches above the average,” Skow said.
