Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Bernard C. Hill

The section of U.S. Highway 59 from Kansas Highway 10 to U.S. Highway 56 was dedicated Monday as Bernard Hill Highway in honor of the late Kansas Highway Patrol lieutenant.

The Kansas Legislature passed a bill last spring that provided for the naming of sections of the highway system after KHP officers killed while on duty.

According to the KHP website, Hill, who was born in Lawrence, was killed on May 28, 1967, when a car towing another vehicle lost control in a rainstorm near Andover, crossed the center line, overturned and collided with Hill’s patrol car.
