The community is invited to a family-friendly event highlighting Douglas County’s services, programs and employees.
Douglas County is celebrating National County Government Month with “Discovery Day” on Tuesday, April 21, offering activities and games for all ages while giving the public a chance to learn about county departments. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Open Pavilion at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper Street.
County departments support the community through maintaining roads, parks and bridges and providing public safety and court services. There are also departments that keep land records, preserve local history, conduct elections, advance sustainability, and even support behavioral health and human services.
According to a press release from Douglas County, some of the event highlights include:
• Touch-a-truck activities with vehicles from Douglas County Public Works, the Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, Consolidated Fire District No. 1 and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.
• Interactive games for all ages led by county departments, such as Criminal Justice Youth Services, Administration, Clerk and Elections, GIS and Sustainability.
• Resources and information from county departments and partners, including Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, the Treatment and Recovery Center, Engage Douglas County and LiveWell Douglas County.
There will also be local food trucks on site, including Barbwire Barbecue, JB’s Tacos and Pretzelly with food for purchase.
