Massachusetts Street in front of the historic Douglas County Courthouse is closed due to repairs to an aging waterline.

Massachusetts Street in front of the historic Douglas County Courthouse is temporarily closed on Tuesday to repair an aging waterline.

The closure extends from 11th Street to North Park Street. Douglas County is currently working with the City of Lawrence and has hired a contractor to complete the repairs, according to a press release from Douglas County.

After the workday, crews will place street plates to allow at least one lane in each direction to reopen overnight. The project is expected to take approximately five to seven days to complete, weather permitting. The courthouse will remain open with all services available throughout the project.
